If you do not completely trust yourself, you can choose either to paddle your own kayak or in a double sea kayak, which is more stable.

Anyone under 12 must paddle with another (it can also be the case sometimes that youths over 12 years old will be put in a double kayak) and participants under 18 need permission from their guardians. Do you have questions about age limits? – Please just ask!
Practical information
  • Meet up with a water bottle, sun glasses and a smile.
  • You can store your personal belongings at our base, which will be locked.
  • Clothing: Shoes that can get wet – clothes that suit the weather conditions. We recommend woollen underwear on cold days. Rain clothes if it’s raining.
  • Wear waterproof pants/ rain pants if you want to completely avoid any water dripping from the paddle onto your lap.
  • The kayak guides will bring waterproof bags, where you can store food, clothing, or other valuables that you want to bring on the tour.
  • Have questions about your trip? Ask us – we will answer all your questions, and look forward to taking you on a real kayaking adventure!

History

GRESSHOLMEN: This little island is the site of Oslo’s first airport during the period 1926-1938.

Christiania’s Shooting Club was also situated on the island, from 1864 right up to 1990. The remains of this are still visible if you you look down by your feet just south of the restaurant.

The restaurant is an old inn built in 1883. It is a fine example of typical Norwegian architecture, painted over with the iconic “Falun Red”, which you will see over all of Scandinavia.

It is also the location of Heggholmen Fyrstasjon, a fire station jutting out of the island towards Lindøya.
