Fantastisk opplevelse å være med på kajakktur rundt Hovedøya. Supre instruktører som var veldig imøtekommende og bidro til en trygg og morsom førstegangsopplevelse i kajakk ?

Info

Are you afraid that you do not have enough experience paddling a kayak? It is not required. This tour is suitable for adventurous families, beginners, as well as experienced paddlers. If you do not completely trust yourself, you can choose either to paddle your own kayak or in a double sea kayak, which is more stable.

Anyone under 12 must paddle with another (it can also be the case sometimes that youths over 12 years old will be put in a double kayak) and participants under 18 need permission from their guardians. Do you have questions about age limits? – Please just ask!
Practical information
  • Meet up with a water bottle, sun glasses and a smile.
  • You can store your personal belongings at our base, which will be locked.
  • Clothing: Shoes that can get wet – clothes that suit the weather conditions. We recommend woollen underwear on cold days. Rain clothes if it’s raining.
  • Wear waterproof pants/ rain pants if you want to completely avoid any water dripping from the paddle onto your lap.
  • The kayak guides will bring waterproof bags, where you can store food, clothing, or other valuables that you want to bring on the tour.
  • Have questions about your trip? Ask us – we will answer all your questions, and look forward to taking you on a real kayaking adventure!

History

HOVEDØYA: The island’s name originates from “high island”, and consequently, if ever an invading force advanced up through the Oslo Fjord (the most practical way to invade the city), the watchmen on Hovedøya would be some of the first to know.

The island therefore boasts a fort built in 1808 with an array of cannons pointing south.

During the medieval period, an abbey on the island was the Oslo region’s main trading post. After the reformation, however, the abbey was raided by King Christian II in 1532 and its ruins are testament to this.
